New Drivers
How to apply
All new applicants should apply for a Driver Information Kit from the Silver Top Taxi Training School. This contains all government forms you require as well as a step by step guide to becoming a taxi driver.
Applicants must submit the appropriate forms to the Victorian Taxi Directorate (VTD) which will usually issue them with a Taxi Driver Skills Passport. The applicant then enrolls at the Silver Top Taxi Training School to undertake a Certificate Course in Taxi Driving (either full time or part time). Taxi Drivers returning to the industry or other qualified applicants are welcome to apply to be assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Driver Security
Security Cameras In Taxis
Passengers are reminded that security cameras are fitted to all Silver Top Taxis. Victoria Police have commended the use of security cameras in taxis. Ensuring the rights of passengers and taxi drivers to privacy is paramount. The purpose of the cameras is to record incidents or assaults in taxis for investigative purposes. Images of everyday passenger trips are not viewed or retained by any person. The Government has prepared strict controls and policies for the operation of the security cameras in conjunction with the Privacy Commissioner of Victoria to ensure that:
Access to recorded images is restricted to authorised people who may exercise this access in response to a Victoria Police request to obtain the recorded camera images individuals' rights to privacy are protected at all times.
Images from cameras can only be used for authorised purposes.

Taxi Drivers and Hire Car
Taxi Drivers and Hire Car Silver Top Taxi Service is proud to be the premium provider of Training Services to the taxi industry. Our Certificate Course in Taxi Driving is offered over twelve contact days, with a new course offered most Mondays.
After successfully completing the course graduates are able to obtain a Taxi Drivers Certificate (DC) from the Victorian Taxi Directorate (VTD). This qualifies them to operate a Metropolitan Taxi or Hire Car.
