Administration

Kevin Gange
Executive Chairman
The Executive Chairman is President of the Victorian Taxi Association.

Finance

The finance department is responsible for all normal financial and accounting operations plus the processing of Cabcharge dockets lodged by the Operators for payment. Accounting services are also provided to Operators.

Cabcharge is an international Charge Account System which gives access to more than 13,000 cabs throughout Australia and an increasing number of international locations.

Transactions can be by way of card, encoded voucher or both. Volume users are able to take advantage of the Cabcharge Taxi Management System which provides the monthly account either on a statement diskette, CD-Rom (both of which includes images of individual dockets) or downloading free via the internet. Silver Top staff are more than happy to give a demonstration of the Cabcharge Taxi Management System if required.

More information on Cabcharge can be found at www.cabcharge.com.au.

Communications

The Communications Centre is among the most modern in Australia. The Raywood computerised dispatch system incorporates GPS (Global Positioning) for fast, accurate dispatch of jobs as well as for safety for both the passengers and drivers.

This is all interfaced with the latest Lucent Technologies telephone system, which has been specifically designed to cater for our needs and includes Caller Line Identification (CLI), and Integrated Voice Response (IVR). Either of these two options greatly reduce the time taken to make and process a booking. CLI identifies the originating phone number and on the second and subsequent calls, the address attached to that number. The client can then either follow the voice prompts of the IVR or wait to speak to an Operator. The technology of the system is such that we accept and dispatch bookings for both Bendigo Taxis and Geelong Radio Cabs. The Centre receives over five hundred thousand calls per month.

Easycab is a fully automated taxi booking system whereby special telephone and Customer identification numbers are programmed into the memory of the Client’s phone system. When a taxi is required, the memory speed-dial is activated and the booking is automatically accepted by the dispatch computer. This process takes approximately 15 seconds.

It is particularly beneficial to busy Receptions, Restaurants, Hotels etc. Foreign Language Lines have been instigated for those whom English is not the first language. To date, this service is available in Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Croatian and Polish.

Quality Control

This department is responsible for service delivery, vehicle standards and Operator and Driver training and discipline.

Vehicle Standards & Inspections
All vehicles are presented to the main depot every 3 months where they are checked to ensure they are up to standard insofar as cleanliness, presentation and road worthiness is concerned.

Driver Training
All new applicants should apply for a Driver Information Kit from the Silver Top Taxi Training School, this contains all the government forms required, as well as a step by step guide to becoming a Taxi Driver. Applicants must submit the appropriate forms to the Victorian Taxi Directorate (VTD) who will usually issue them with a Taxi Driver Skills Passport. The applicant then enrols at the Silver Top Taxi Training School to undertake a Certificate Course in Taxi Driving, in either our full time, or part time course. Taxi Drivers returning to the industry, or other qualified applicants are welcome to apply to be assessed for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Driver Discipline
If a complaint is received against a driver, they are summonsed to appear before the Personnel Officers who will decide upon the action to be taken. This can be in a number of forms ranging from attending the school for retraining to dismissal from the Service in more severe cases. All complaints are thoroughly investigated.
